2010 Recreation Soccer Tournament

The East Windsor Boys U12 team finished second at the
East Brunswick 20th Annual Soccer Tournament
on Saturday June 12, 2010 under the leadership of Coach
Emilio Deltoro.
First East Windsor won an impressive 2-1 victory over
HSL-Team Devitt. East Windsor dominated most of
the game with several close shots on goal. Goals
were scored by Marco Sosa and Carlos Adragna.
Stephen Luhrman
had several solo breakouts. The defensive line of Emilio
Deltoro, Kyle Burns, Frank Roberts and Anthony Soto kept
most of HSL-Team Devitt advances at bay. Axel
Forys was solid in goal.
East Windsor came out with a 2-2 tie in a hard fought
battle with HSL-Team Dorry. East Windsor’s
midfield which included Adam Serenkin, Alexander Urbina,
Allan Bravo and Joseph Adragna kept constant pressure on
their opponents. Goals were scored by Antonio
Montepeque and Carlos Orellana (penalty shot).
William Roberts had a near miss. Axel Forys again
did a great job in goal.
9 rec teams from the EWPAL rec soccer program
participated in 20th Annual East Brunswick 1-Day
Recreational Soccer Tournament. Each team played 2
games. Teams U10 and under were not ranked and
officially did not keep scores, teams U12 and U14
competed for 1st/2nd place.
The
East Windsor Boys U12 rec team, sponsored by VFW Post
5700, finished second under the leadership of
Coach Emilio Deltoro.

U14 Girls / Tidal Waves, coached by Melodie McGrath and
Jeff Killeen, played well, losing a tough game to East
Brunswick Australia 0-2, then beating
the North Brunswick Lady Raiders 1-0.
With 2 divisions in their age group, their 1-1 record
was not quite enough to get them to the championship
game.
Rostered for the team were Megan Benci, Jessie
Blackburn, Jessie Cier, Dori Killeen, Katherine Guzman,
Raakel Vuojolainen, Michelle Belansky, Amanda DeFoe,
Caila Cabrera, Dulce Avila, Jocelyn Alfaro, Savannah
Gilmore, Tressa Distelcamp, and Sophia Boughman.
The Girls U7 United,
coached by Sebastian Szelag, defeated the East Brunswick
Thunderbirds 6-0 on goals scored by Kailyn Castro (2),
Isabel Hulme (2), Lizzie LeChard, and Jessica Devlin.
Sharing the shutout in goal were Morgan Koppel, Sophia
Szelag, and Jessica Devlin, with Maeve McGowan leading
the defensive effort for the team. The girls then
finished strong, defeating the East Brunswick Oranges
4-0 on goals scored by Isabel Hulme, Sophia Szelag,
Neeharika Anand, and Kailyn Castro. Maeva McGowan again
spearheaded the defensive effort, with Leela Chari,
Camilla Ortiz, and Kailyn Castro sharing the 2nd shutout
in goal.
The Girls U7 Tigers, coached by John Gabriello and Mike
Thompson, who took advantage of one of the many
activities at the tournament and spray-painted their
hair orange to match their shirts, defeated the East
Brunswick Green Lightning 3-0, then fell behind in the
closing moments of their second game, losing to the East
Brunswick Thunderbirds by a score of 1-2. Rostered for
the team were Megan McConnell, Frejya Quinn, Emma Cohen,
Kiana Quizphi, Ava Thompson, Alexandra Weinstein, Lilly
Gabriello, Grace Heilbronn, Isabella Heilbronn, Olivia
Heilbronn, and Natalie Petillo.
The Boys U7 team, coached by Rob Walkley and Ken Cohen,
then East Brunswick Slayers then lost a tough game to
Monroe United 2-5. Rostered for the team were Antonio
Camposano, Nicholas Walkley, Rob Walkley Jr, Dylan
Almache, Spencer Cohen, Jason Avila, Adrian Urbina,
Tyler Sweeney, Paul Santoro, Bryan Ortega, and Daniel
Quezada.
The Boys U8 team, coached by Kevin McConnell, lost a
close match with East Brunswick Spehalski 2-3, faced the
East Brunswick Terminators to a 0-0 tie in the 1st half
of their 2nd game, then fell behind 0-4 in the 2nd half.
Rostered for the team were Nicholas Petruso, Mike
McConnell, Yash Khangura, Brendan Coffee, Jake Salas,
Aayush Gupta, Joshua Martin, Matthew Palacios, Connor
Mamone, Nate Ackerman, and Allan Gomez.
The Girls U8 team, coached by Jeff Stephens and Steve
Szeles, showed grit and determination, playing with only
8 players due to several last minute drop-outs, losing
to the East Brunswick Stars and the East Brunswick
United. Playing for the team were Amy Szeles, Elizabeth
Szeles, Shannon Hauselt, CJ Frank, Kendra Stephens,
Laila Aly, Mikayla Capasso, and Shivaani Bala.
When the EWPAL U10 Boys
group, who were predominately U9 players, had too many
players allowed for one roster, rather than turn players
away Coach Peter Lumkong worked tirelessly to recruit
enough players for a second team. His U10 Team
A defeated North Brunswick Team USA, then lost to East
Brunswick Team 1. Rostered for Team A were Jacob Faye,
Joseph Zisa, Michael Zisa, Ian Lumkong, Bryan Emery,
Tristan Gayle, Matthew Michenfelder, Robbie Trainor, and
Nathan Diller. The U10 Team B, coached by Mandeep
Talwar, defeated the Manalapan Daemons, then fell to the
East Brunswick Typhoons. Rostered for Team B were Diego
Perez, Alexis Rodriguez, Byron Ruf, Kevin Luna, Robert
Vanejas, Erik Fernandez, Stephen Cohen, Neil Talwar,
Brandon Hernandez, and Andrew Abrego.
