As part of a targeted effort to
provide the most positive experience for its
athletes, East Windsor Police Athletic League has
established a one year partnership with Positive
Coaching Alliance (PCA). PCA, a Stanford
University-based non-profit organization, works with
coaches, organizational leaders and parents to more
effectively teach young athletes not only how to
win, but also how to learn about teamwork,
discipline, respect and goal-setting through their
sports experience.
A Brief History of the East Windsor Police
Athletic League
Much is written and reported in the news about
kids at risk in society today. All children face difficult
challenges at school, at home and on the playing field.
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is dedicated
to providing programs which offer children an opportunity to
participate with positive roll models and risk success and
failure on a level playing field without drugs, guns or
violence.
The PAL is a non-profit organization spanning
over 90 years of commitment to youth. It is the largest
organization of law enforcement agencies utilizing athletics,
recreational, and educational activities to instill positive
life principles and character building tools in an effort to
deter juvenile crime and violence.
Serving approximately two million youth
between the ages of 5-18, nationally there are over 700 cities
and 1700 facilities conducting programs and activities through
PAL.
Organized in 1970, the East Windsor Police
Athletic League (EWPAL) is sponsored by the East Windsor PBA
Local 191. Since that time, the EWPAL has grown from
serving approximately 100 children to our current enrollment of
over 3000. In 1991 EWPAL was granted a lease from East
Windsor Township for our Airport Road Complex and in May of 1999
we celebrated the opening of our new facilities. We are
proud to be able to provide safe alternatives year round for all
the children in our community.
